REFORM LEAGUE.
CHRISTCHURCH NORTH BRANCH. The annual meeting of the Christchurch North branch of the New Zealand Reform League was held at the League's rooms, Hereford street, last evening Mr D. Hoaro presiding over j a fair attendance. j The chairman said that the year had been an uneventful one, so far as the branch'Vas concerned, as in the absence of a candidate for tho seat the committee had not met, The branch was, hoAvever. in a good position, and ao>v j that Mr F. Toogood had been ; secured as a candidate for the next election the branch uonkl be able to i*;t j to Avork in earnest. Tlie Avomen s j branch of the League was a very active one, aad was already doing good work. Mr D. Jones, organiser for the Reform League, was present, and gave a short address. He stated that Mr j Toogood had definitely decided to stand, and would not therefore accept tlie pos - lion that had been offered h:m as engineer to the Patea Harbour Board. Mr Toogood would be in Christchurch shortly to take up bus residence, and inter into business. Jones was confident that he Avould prove an excellent candidate and one that members could -.v-ork Avith coniidence as to ilia result of the election. • Tlie jun?o; branch of the Reform League Avould, ho considered, be an important factor in the coming election. The hon. treasurer reported that there was a sn.r.ll credit balance in hand. The election of president and hon. secretary were held oA-cr till the next meeting. The folloAving officers were elected: —Vice-presidents, Messrs D. Hoare, A. McKellar. M. Redmayne, J. H. Williams, and H. W. Doivning* committee, Messrs R. Hay, E. Hardcastle, R. H Hennah, C. Maginness, J. W. Batey, M. Redmayne/ L. S. P'Loughlen, C. J. Cooper, A. 1. Rattray, and G. B. Ritchie; hon. treasurer,. Mr Otto Ballin (re-elected). Tho matter of appointing delegates to represent the branch at "the annual conference of the- Reform League, to be. held in Wellington next week, was left in the hands of tho chairman and Messrs Jones and Gulliver. A very hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr W. H. Gulliver for his excellent work as honorary secretary, and regret was expressed that 4 he wm unable to see his Avay to continue in tho position beyond such time as a successor Avas appointed.
It was decided to hold the next meeting in August.
