A. FAIRBAIRN v. "OTAGO DAILY | TIMES." £830 DAMAGES AWARDED. In the Supreme Court yesterday morning, before his Honour Mr Justice Sim and a special jury of twelve, the hearing of tho case of alloyed libel between ".\. Fairbairn, of Christchurch, nnd tho Otago Daily Times Company, oi" Dunedin, was continued. The sum of .-'OOO was claimed on four causes of action (at £250 each) in rcsnecz of a leading article and three letters. Sir John Findlay. with him Mr Wri'_ht, appeared for plaintiff., and Mr W. C McGregor, with him Mr C. Stringer, for the defendant company. Prior to tho sitting of the Court, the conns'-l and his Honour tho Judge had agreed upon the issue, to he submitted to the jury. These were thirteen in number, and covered tho whole four causes of action. Tho hearing of evidence hud been concluded on tho previous day, and yesterday counsel proceeded to address tho jury.
