A LINK WITH THE PAST.
BUSHRANGING IN AUSTRALIA. DEATH OF MRS LEDWIDGE. (By Cible.—Press Association.—Copyright.) SYDNEY, July 10. The death is announced of Mrs Ledwidgo, aged 76, a link with the bushranging days.
The bushranger Power, after escaping from Pentridge Gaol, stuck up Ledwidge's Hotel at Humula. Ledwidge escaped, and, mounted on Power's horse, went in search of tho police. Power ransacked the house in search of a bag of gold-dust which, with another bag containing £600, was in Mrs Ledwidge's possession. The bpshranger twice severely beat the defenceless woman Avith a gun barrel for refusing to disclose whero the gold was hidden, and thrice set firo to the house, but Mrs Ledwidgo put the flames out. Power secured only £2 in money, and a £20 cheque, and fled, leaving his victimNbleeding on the floor.
