Ho states that "tho lawless element among the strikers in Wellington took advantago of the position to cause riots in various (sarts of the' city. Dorr ing the Taranaii street not a non-comm-issioned ofliccr of tho Permanent U--fenco Force was struck on the bead with an iron bolt, thrown by a rioter, and was so seriously injured that be is still unfit to resume duty. A mounted constabl- who was trying to prerent tho Royal T%er Hotel in Taranaki street from being wrecked was also hit on the head with a missilo, and has not ye. boon able to resume duty. Another constable wais bo _*r*»u*_y hurt in -ho riot which ooouxred in front of Messrs Wlitoombe and Tombs's shop in Lambton quay, that be had to bo taken to tho hiospitaL I am pteasod, to say, howeror, that this oonßtable is nowable to carry on hia duties as us-ftl.
