ASHBURTON.

(Before Mr V. G. Day, S.M.) A first-offender who pleaded guilty to drunkenness on the Ashburton railway station was fined 10s, id deiault 4_ hours' imprisonment. Another farstoffender was fined us, m defmut 2liours' imprisonment. Ernest Richard Maybury, who appeared on remand, pleaded guilty to drunkenness and procuring liquor whilst prohibited. Thomas Pennal was charged with committing mischief, to wit, cutting willows in the river-hed, Hampstead, also with using ohseone language. Mr Buchanan appeared for defendant, who pleaded not guilty. Sergeant Emerison applied for a remand for a week, which was granted. Hedlev George Leo Watson (Mr Kennedvl pleaded not guilty to a charge of failin-l to attend drill as required by the provisions of tho Defence Act, and was fined £3 and costs.

William Quirk, who did not appear, was charged with furiously driving a motor-car in East street, and was fined ■40s, and costs. Morris Marney pleaded •Tuiltv to a similar offence, but stated he had brought o patient in from the country to a doctor. The statement was accepted by the Magistrate, who ordered defendant to pay costs. William Reddington, who failed to ■nne.ir to answer a charge of being in arrears with his payments on an order under the Destitute Persons Act, was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment.
