BEE KEEPING.
CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. Tho seventh annual meeting of the Canterbury Beekeepers' Association was Wd in tte Trad.- Hall, Mr E. G. Ward (president) in the chair. There was a good att_-_-U-Ce and much interest was taken in the business. Mr T. Vf. Kirk, Director of Orchards, drew attention to tho forthcoming Grocers' ____ibition in fyondon,' and asked for entries in. -he honey dasscs from colonial producers able to supply five-ton lots. It was resolved to commend the subject to individual members. . Mr is. Bowman, apiary -inspector, stated that particulars of honey and prices and samples were required by an , "fengHs - ! firm.'. The secretary was mefcructed to write asking what kind of honey was required. | One member resigned, and 1 three new | members were-"elected. The ' member-ship-is now 100. The delegates who attended tho Conference in June presented their report of the proceedings, which was adopted. The president read the amended constitution of tho National Beefeeepers .Association as adopted'at tho Conference. He pointed out that the constitution would now permit of tho Canterbury Association joining tho National Association on equitable terms. Ho* earnestly urged tho meeting to adopt the constitution and become a district branch, pointing out that ono strong body would have much more weight than representations from several disunited Associations. "Messrs C. A. Jacobsen and A. IroI__d also, spoke," and on being put to the vote, the proposal wa_ carried nn-_jiin-oasly. - -"••"'- » - Mr F. S. Pope, Secretary for Agri_ul__ro, wrote in reply to a letter from* tho Association, announcing that -freight rates on section honey would now be charged under rato C. but no alteration could bo made in other claases of honey, though tho matter would be kept in mind when revising the tariff. ' The report congratulated the Association on a very successful, year. A considerable saving on cases for honey for , export had been made to members through the Association buying these in largo numbers. A most enjoyable day had been spent in February at Mr Jacob-sen's apiary, Little Biver, and _-*t__t_ctton was expressed at the financial position. •' The balance-sheet showed a credit of about £6.
The co-operative movement, inangu- i rated by the Taranaki Association, was di-cussed, and details explained by the delegates, who represented the C.B.A. in Wellington. Share application forms wore distributed, and boon interest was aroosed. A meeting will be held shortly, and it is probable if details are mutually agreeable to tho Waikato, Gantercttiry, and Taranaki Associations, "that a branch of the New Zealand Oooperaiivo Honey-producers' Association will be -ormed in (_r_*tchurch. About 70 tons of honey have Been exported i -to__ Canterbury this season, so it will be seen that the matter is worthy of consideration, as the season has been hdov the average.
Much interest was also aroused in -oon-eskm with the publication of a Bee Journal by the National Association. Everyone in the room promised to support it. and there seems no doubt that it will be a- sue-cess from the start. __■© following officers were elected: — President, Mr E.
