NO MATCH IN CHRISTCHURCH..
A meeting of members of tha Management Committee of the Canterbuiy I Centre was hold last evening, to con- i sider tho offer of tho British team to i play here on Wednesday next, and an urgent message from Mr James Carlaw president of the Sew Zealand Council, to tho effect that the visitors would forego other arrangements to play m Christchurch on July loth. The local president (Dr. Thacker) strongly supported the proposal, but, after a brief discussion, the Contra unanimously confirmed its previous decision, and consequently tho fixture will not bo played on July loth. In view of the circumstances, the local executive has every reason to take up this attitude. Whon the itinerary was drawn up for tbo Englishmen's tour of the Homhiion, tho local Centre was not- granted a fixture. However, it was decided that if tho visitors could leavo Sydney on July 4th. Canterbury would be given a match on the following Saturday. After it became known that the Britishers would leavo New South Wales on July'4th, the Jfew Zealand Council made other arrangements, which left the local Centre no alternative, ami it* regrets that the local public will not havo an opportunity of seeing the Englishmen in action in j Canterbury.
