THE PIKI BENEFIT
CHEQUE FOR OVER £100. At tho meeting of the Canterbury Rugby UnioD* last evening a statement of receipts and expenditure was received in connexion with the benefit to J. T. M., Piki .from Mr A. Ihiggan, secretary of tho Merivale Club, which made the arrangements in regard to the benefit. Enclosed -was a cheque for £101 12s Bd, which sum caused tho .chairman,.Mr G. H. Mason, to remark, "Extremely.good." , The principal items of receipts wore: ~7<7heque from Park matches, £42 0s 4d;-saJe of tickets, £G6 3s; donations: South Sydney Football Club, £1 Is (less Is exchange); Christchurch Football Club, 10s 6d; net proceeds- from afternoon tea, £2 3s 6d ;«■ total. £112 4s 10s. Most of the expenditure comprised printing, advertising, and other incidental expenses. The secretary, Mr C. "W*. Herrey, stated that he had received a ' further siim of 12s, to bo added'to the benefit. Mr Mason said tho result was very gratifying to all concerned, especially the Merivale Football Chib, which had shouldered the bulk of iha>_ work connected with the benefit.' Considering the weather, the support accorded by the public was most gratifying, and proved- that the sporting public had great sympathj' with Piki in his misfortune.
After somo discussion aa to the best means of applying the proceeds for tho benefit, it "vvas decided to leave the matter in the hands of the chairman and the secretarjfof the Merivale Club to decide.- , ;,-.'-
