Street. - ■-.'■■ Tho success of- the fifth' annual ploughing match hold under the auspices of tho Lincoln' Ploughing Match Association yesterday was assured when it was evident that the day was going to be an ideal one. Thirty-four teams had entered in the six classes provided and when the flag was run up to comI menco ploughing, all but four of the ! entrants started. Tho match was held in a padaock, lent for tho occasion by Mr J. A. Henley, of Lincoln, which was situated on. the- Springs road a short distance from the Canterbury Agricultural College. The land was in very fair condition for the work, and • turned up moderately well, being, however, a bit on tho uneven and crumbly side, for sensational'work. There was a very large attendance of the public from all over the district, and tho energy of the officials and their generally capable management of the match resulted in everything passing off in excollont style. Otago, In tho rest of tho classes all •the competitors were from north of tho Ashburton Cbtinty, ranging from Southbridge to Balmoral.' Tho work done was, as usual, of a very high ciass indeed, in tho majority of cases, but tho j public's ideas of tho /winnei-s and thoso | of the judges did not coincide in some | instawceij.
