TIMARU MARKETS.
(SPECIAL TO "THE ,rBESS.") TIMARU,* Juno 12. The local grain and produce markets aro still not very brisk. In the case of wheat, this is accounted for by the fact that millers are at present fairly i well supplied, while in the case of oats it is attributable to the fact that there is practically no demand. Tb,e r , otato I market is quiet by reason of tne liberal I supplies now coming forward, and the lack of orders of any considerable size from other centres. Good lines ,of ! bright milling Velvet wheat aro com- ! manding 4s and 4s Id, Tuscan is selling at 3s 6d to 3s lOd, according to quality, and Red chaff at 3s lOd to 3s 10* d, all delivered Timaru. Good whole fowl wheat is worth 3s lid to 4s, f.o.b. S.I. It is difficult to givo a reliable quotation for oats, but prices for good Cartons may bo said to be in the Vicinity of is 8d to is 9d, on trucks, country, stations. Oat sheaf chaff is not in great demand. Tho quotation is £2 5s to £2 10s, on trucks, sacks extra. Very few good bright lines are offering, a *lot of the chaff this year being discoloured. Potatoes are quoted at about £3 per ton, country stations, some lines being worth a little more, and some a little less. It is anticipated that prices will improve when digging is over. <,
