ACCOMPLICES BEFORE THE COURT.
PRINCIPALS STILL AT LARGE. (Received Juno 12th, S p.m.) SYDNEY, June 12. Arthur Tatliam and Joseph Twibs vrero charged ttv-day with aiding and abetting in tho Eveleigh robbery. * Tho police- stated that information received led thorn to believe that both men were accomplices. Tho principals had not been arrested. Defendants' solicitor contended that neither had been identified in connexion with tho robbery. When confronted at the police station, they tsaid they had never seen one another before. The police stated that Tatliam had admitted that on tho same day a month previously, tho same car had been stolen from the samo spot' about noon, but was recovorod within a hundred, yards. When he found tho car missing on the day of tho robbery, ho reported the matter to tho garage, but not to tho police. Tho latter suggested that ho allowed the car to bo taken a month before for tho samo purpose as on tho day of tho robbery. Tatham denied baring done so. Twiss, when questioned why he had made no effort to retain tho box, said '■I had no timo. Tho man carao up and said 'I want that box, it's mine.' " Twiss denied telling railway employees or anybody else that the robbery could be effected in tho way it actually occurred, or that he was leaving tho Service shortly. He admitted that he had carried cash-boxes on alternate Wednesdays for three years. Tatham stated that he could identify the man with whom he had a drink, when tho car was stolen. Tha police said tho robbery was reported ten minutes before tho theft of the car was. Accused were remanded on bail of £900 each, and three securities of £300 each.
