FUTURE AFRICAN CHURCH.

irzju ova own , c*Rnw»roxDEvT.) LONDON, April 24. The Archbishop of Canterbury, speaking at the anniversary meeting of the S.P.G., said:—'"Last year a problem presented itself almost as a bolt out of the blue, and Kikuyu was on everyone's lips. Two great missionaries, the Bishop of Zanzibar and ilie Bishop of Uganda, had said their say. and it would be quite out of piace to diecus.& the question now. particularly as it did not directly concern the Society Judging from the newspaper letters on tno subject, the right solution of the question, according to the points of view of the authors, was easy or attainment. Was it too much to say that i'achitv of solution corresponded with absence of well-informed thought or practical experience? Everyone looked forward —at least ho could .not conceive of a man being a Christian who did not—to an African church which should not be a bit of transformed English life but an African church. The church of the future would, they believed, bo formed of thoio whose ancestors had received their Christianity through different channels. There were two or threo great principles that must be observed. First, they must see that they did not transplant their church on lices_ of sectional ai:d subssoctional denominations which in reality owed their origin_ to idiosyncrasies and personal peculiarities, politically as well as oocleeiastically, in I the 16th. 17th, and ISth centuries. On ! the other hand, they must not draw I their plans for the church of the future • on linos that contravened tho principles in the Nicene Creed of one Catholic and Apostolic church." (Cheers.)
