ASHBURTON.
A very unusual sight was experienced in Ashburton yesterday, when a constable was seen arresting a woman for drunkenness in the main street*. "" At the Ashburton Baring sq_ar_ Methodist Young Men's Literary and Debating Society, held on Tuesday evening,, the subject, for de6*ite was, "That New Zealand should have a Navy of its own, and not subsidise the British Navy." On a vote being taken, the negative side won. On Tuesday evening, Mr'-.. R. -J. Tucker, of the firm of Tucker's,. Ltd., at Ashburton, was presented, on behalf of the contractors and sub-contractors, with an afternoon tea Service, and, on behalf of tho employees, with an oak tea tray, on the eve of his marriage
