ALLEGED SHOP-LIFTING
AN EXCITING SCENE.
An exciting scene occurred in a wellknown drapery establishment yesterday afternoon. A woman was suspected of shop-lifting, and was detained while tho polioo authorities were communicated with. She remained quiet until Detectives Ilcgaii and O Connor arrived, but when tfioy took stej;s to arr«sst her, she- resisted violently. tShe made a thrust at Detective Kegan with a hatpin, which cauglit him in tho abdomen, and drew blood. Had he not thrown himself back, there is little doubt that the hatpin would have inflicted a bad wound.
This occurred upstairs, and when the detectives seized ttie woman, sha fougnt savagely-, and screamed at the ot her voice. Her straggles were of httie avail, howler, and in tlie preeence of a very largo crowd which had been attracted by the noise and the scuffle, eho was taken to tho lock-up.
