Bewildered County Councillors.
Two London County Councillors are said to liavo experienced a fcurpriso at an elementary school in Gerkenwcll the other day. They questioned and crossexamined the elder scholars almost unmercifully, tho ''Telejrra^h-' , says, and when tho class had reached tho point of restiveness ono of the councillors asked for "a short quotation from gliakespeare." A hand went up, and the youngster began "Ye gods, ye gods! must I endure all this?" —from "Juli , '* Cicsarr" Tho visitors expressed doubt of the authenticity of that, and asked for anothor Tjroof. Promptly came tho '"Ye blocks, yo stones, y© worse than senseless things!" The two London County Councillors went away from that school bewildered. Mr J. A. Pease, tho President of tho Board of Education, himself has had a similar experience lately, when visiting a school which is situated near a railway station. A p'rl was reading aloud when a train rtishod by almost dcafeningly.
■'Did you unconscious]v raise your voice because of that train?" Mr Poaso asked the "If I were unconscions of it. how should I know, sir?" was tho answer.
