MEETING AT SUMNER.
A public meeting was hold in the Town Hull, Simmer. last night, for tbo purpose of devising means to assist the Open-Air Homes for Children Fund. The Mayor (Air , Ci. W. C. Smiihaon* presided, and there wero about forty people' present. The piincipal speaker was Dr. G. J. Blackmore, Director of the North Canterbury Tuberculosis Institutions. He said it was astonishing that so Httlo liad been done in tho past to prevent tho spread of consumption. Tho object of tho movement on foot was to remove tho afflicted ones to a placo where they could have a chance to livrt, by getting proper attention and inhaling puro air. Mrs J, H. Fountain (representing the Christchurch Executive Committee, moved that a Sura nor Committee bo formed. This was carried. The following committee' was then eet up to consider ways and means.— Mesdames G. W. C. Smithwn. C. Forftuson, J. Neville, Tait, A. W. Beavon, Dorinan, and Davies, Misses Wood, Cooper, nnd Dencon, tho llor. MacKenzie Gibson, Dr. Line. Messrs G. F. Alton, M. Laurenson, and Adley. Mrs G. ,W. C. Smithson was appointed convenor. Tho Rev. Mr Gibson said he considered that this movement ehould command the. first thoughts of the community, and ho felt that all were in sympathy with it. A very hearty vote of thanks to Dr. Blackmore and tho Mayor concluded an enthusiastic: mooting, the Mayor stating that he had no doubt that Sutnner would do her part well.

The Suburbs and Country Committees met yesterday &ftornow, when jnonts wero ■ made for holding mootings m Sydenham Qpawa, Addingtoa, and Iticomond, It was also arranged that ; all Jocal bodJee, tradq unions, and sports bod4ea be approftobed for support to tne movement. .;•;■•
