I notice also that the bootmakers arc agitating-for increased duties on ;, boots by ti.l» very agitation they are making confession that the high auties levied torn*- years ago have been a failure. They certainly do not appear either to have checked importation cr to have raised the wages of tho bootmakers. It is to be hoped the public will not allow any furt-er duties. If more protection is wanted, it 6hows that the industry is i-ot suited fo the country, or the country to tho industry.
