After tbe speeches of welcome at th* Hotel ac A ilk, all eyes turned to the Lord Mayor of London, expecting him to rise, but Lord Peel, chairman of th» London County Council, promptly ros»» and responded to the toast. The Lord Mayor, Sir Vansittart Bowater, ioliowen. When the visitors signed tbe Golden Book, Lord Peel: inserted his signature above that of Sir V„nsittart.
