SiTj—ln answer to a letter in your issuo of the sth inst. signed "Square Deal," I may state that, the referee did quite right in awarding a sorum five yards from tho goal-line. -The facte" that I got from tho Tefere© are these: A University player kicked the ball over tho Christchureh goal-line, and a Christchureh player picked the ball up, but before he could do anything with it was tackled by an opponent, who tried to get the ball from him, and tho referee ruled, under Rule 14, which reads;—"lf a playei when over the goal-line and in possession of the ball be tackled before the ball is grounded, the "ball shall be scrummaged five yards from the goalline opposite the spot where the player was tackled." I iaJso have it from the referee that the statement made by "Square Deal" as to what the referee said after tho'game is absolutely Un-true.—-Yours, etc.,
