<By Cable.—Freei A-*oc:'_tion.—CoprriehtA .'Received June 2nd, 10.25 p.m.) LONDON, June 2. Tho Berlin correspondent of "Tho Times" says that German-Australian oxtensiou to New Zealand is connected with a policy to cut the German protectorates in the South Seas out of tho Anglo-Australian sphere of interest. Tho abandonment oi the Australian subsidy does not mark a retrcai, but-the beginning of fresh efforts to push German shipping under the conditions of freedom which tbo Hamburg-Amcrika lino has always advocated. Conservatives even indicate that they aro willing to abandon tho veto on tho importation of meat and wool in tho interests of tho Australian service. Representatives of tho Norddr.utscher Lloyd, the German-Au__ralian line, and tho British shipping companies, meet in London on Wednesday, to discuss tho German-New Zealand service. They desire an amicable settlement.- It is expected tho result will bo a loss of 100,000 tons annually to tho Port of London. ("Times" aid 'Sydney Sun" Service-.) (Received Juno 2nd, 7.45 p.m.) BERLIN, Juno 2. Germany is maturing a campaign on a systematic scale to capture a larger share of tho world's shipping. English companies aro perturbed by the prospect of the loss of 99,000 tons of shipping in consequence of the new service between Germany and New Zealand. Later on it is expected that Germany, Italy, and Switzerland will havo to obtain meat from Australasia, thus providing back cargo. Th,o Norddeutscher Lloyd' Company is reconsidering its decision to abandon tho Australian trade, and is only asking for a temporary subsidy. When this period expires few peoplo will bo surprised if the Hamburg-Amerika Company does not enter tho trade. It is building liners considerably larger than those owned by tho Poninsular and Oriental Company.
