Frostick, president ot tne Boot-Manu-facturers' Federation, conferred, with the executivte of the Employees' Federation," and it was decided- to initiate a campaign witn. a view to obtaining the support of the public, not only as far as the boot-manufacturing trade yas concerned, but also in. regard to other industries which are 'languishing because of outside importations. In furtherance of this.plah it was resolved to invite the employers' and employees representatives in the trades affected to confer in the different centres, and then later, if necessary, to hold a united conference ' representing New Zealand as a whole, to see what steps should be taken to achieve the end aimed at."
Mr CI R. Whiting, of Christchureh, general secretary' of the Mew Zealand Federated Bpo|'Trade Union of Work ers, is at present in the North Island. In connexion with the proposal Mr Whiting states that his mission is to obtain a national brand for articles of New Zealand manufacture that are affected by importations, and he hopes to assist in creating a national movement that will go a lonK way towards fostering local industries.
