BOROUGH COUNCILS
SUMNER.
The Sumner Borough Council met last night. Present —The Mayor (iMr G. W. C. Smithson), Councillors G. Brewer, T. R. Roulton, J. W. Lill, and E. A. B. Rankin. Tho financial statement read as follows:—District fund account, dr. £385 4s, temporary loan account _L*1617, gasworks loan account, cr. £36 &. Bd, gasworks revenue account, dr. £314 3s lid, creek outlet loan account, cr. £01-1 18s 9d.
Tho Finance Committee recommended that tho balance of the usual grant of £10 bo paid to the Sumner Volunteer Fire Brigade.—Agreed to. Tho Works Committee recommended that a number of iron fence fittings, for which tho Council has no use, be sold; that a lin water pipe bo laid from Head street to Snelrs bridge in order to give tho residents of that part a full supply of water. The report was adopted." * The Town Clerk reported that during tho past fonr weeks building permits to the value of £152] had been issued, making a total of £2956 sine© April Ist last.
Correspondence was received from the New Brighton Borough Council, intimating that it had resolved to unite with Sumner and Lyttelton in order to secure representation on the Chri-t----church Domain Board, and agreeing that tho Mayor of Sumner should be tho ropresentativo of tho combined districts on the Board. Received. . Tlie secretary of the Municipal Association of New Zealand intimated that the biennial conference would be hold on July 14th in Wellington. Councillor Barr was appointed tho Council's representative. Messrs Meares and Williams forwarded tho deposit and casement plans of tho Spur subdivision for cxrecution by the Council.
Referred to the Works Committee. The YVaimairi County Council forwarded a copy of a letter which it had sent to the Domain Board, protesting against the levy for the upkeep of tho Christchureh Domain.—Received. It was decided to remit the amount owing to the Sumner Brasra Band for tho municipal concerts given during the past season.
A deputation, consisting of Dr. Gosset, Messrs White-Parsons and S. G. Lnwin (representing tbe Sumner Beautifying Association) waited upon tho Council in regard to planting trees along tho roadside opposite the school for tho deaf. Tho deputation asked for the u« of Day's section for a nursery, and the shed for storing tools, etc. It was pointed out that *ome treOß in Scarborough Park required replacing, and that the fencing was not rabbitproof. The Council resolved to grant tho requests.
