AKAROA

Thacker. __ A special annual recurring rate of .--Ollis ot a penny 1:1 the pound was struck in the Robinson's iJay wharf and road special rating area for the payment of interest and .sinking mud on tne loan proposed to be raised. It was decided to submit plans of the wharf to the Marino Department for its approval, 'the inspector of Machinery reported having inspected the traction engine, and recommended the council to procure a new set of tubes, the present ones showing signs of wear. The recommendation was adopted. Tho clerk was authorised to procure poisoned grain for distribution among ratepayers. The crusher engineer reported upon the crushing plant, and stated that tbe rolling of the newly-metal led portion of the Summit read would be finished in a few days. The Council considered the Defence Department'- circular regarding finding employment for "conscientious objectors" to military training, and decided to recommend that their services should be utilised in treeplanting or other similar work of general utility. Councillors expressed tiio opinion that there were practically no objectors to military training on tho Peninsula. It was decided to give several ratepayers notice to clear gorso from roads adjoining their properties.
