CHILDREN'S HEALTH.
TO THE EDITOB OF "THE PRESS." Sir, —As the children'- health does seem to be under practical consideration, may * I offer a'suggestion in a.; matter -which has for" lonjr seemed :o mc of importance- in this connexion ? It is the state of the children's footwear in bad weather. One of the most fruitful causes of consumption is the sitting in wet shoes and stockings, and even worse the drying thorn on the fee*;. Would it be> possible to make some arrangement, by which children could keep, a pair of dry stockings at school, or, failing something of this-sort, would it be possible to see to tho matter *in any. way? I havo seen children in tennis shoes and old stockings, both wringing, not in ;in ot __sional shower, but" in real bad settled pourine rain. I have often thought that if there could be some reliable elderly woman to see to matters of health at. the schools it would relievo the teachers, and really bo of benefit. —Yours, oto.. ' * '■ "' ONLOOKER. WHO RULES OUR PRIMARY SCHOOLS : j TO THI EDITOR OF "THI -BESS." Sir, —I Was sorry.to ecu the obviously inspired paragraph in to-day's "Press"' in regard to the school celebrations on Wednesday. Tho Board of Education i- surely best qualified to decide the most fitting time for such, a function. It is a piece of impertinence to suggest that the Normal School will not comply with the suggestion of the Education Department. If there was not so much •'slackness" in matters of this kind there would not have been any trouble with the Territorial Cadets. " We do rot forget that the Headmasters'. Association filched practically a week from the children's schooling at Christmas, when the Poard was weak enough to comply with its request.—-Yonrs. etc.. CHAIRMAN. May 3(hjh.
