j TO THI BDITOB. O- "THE PEOESS." '! Sir, —Having read your report of tho ' address of the president of the Chamber of Commerce, under the above heading I regret to see that that gentleman dines to the ancient shibboleth of "tho extraordinary importance of London as a destination for our produce. The days of tho exporters' blind childl-ke confidence in -hipping exclusively. to London are rapidly passing away, partly owing to well-known disabilities in that •port, and certainly to the up-to-date conviction leading shippers and exporters, to direct their produce to the Tjearest port serving naturally.the area whereki that produce is required and! -Consumed,' : , - The president paid a well-deserv__ tribute to. the enerprv and capabiliti'of Bristol, but entirely ignored my old (•ity, Hiill, the third port of tho Kingdom, -with its distributing area of'over eleven millions" population,' not the least of its-many advantages beinc its proximity to Bradford, the wool metropolk.—Yours, etc... J. H. SKINNER (Late of Hull). .'■
