LINWOOD (26) v. CITY (10)
This game took placo on tho East Ground. Tho new team could not get their full streiigtn in, tho missing places being filled by four St. Albans players. Linwood kicked off against the wind, and from tho return kick Koskella opened up the play by a good passing rush, in which he was ably assisted by Stokes and H. Shanks, the last-named player scoring. Th© kick at goal failed. After fairly even play, Stokes secured, and passing to H. Shanks, the latter ran __ round and scored a very easy.try. Koskella added the extra points. Matthews marked, and Button was successful with tho kick. Half-timo , was soon after sounded.
Upon resuminr. Linwood were penalised for off-side play, and Button was successful with the kick. From a scrum. H. Shanks was the next to score. Morris failed with the kick. For holding the Ball, the Reds were penalised, and R. Shanks kicked a beautiful goal. B. Cook, from a loose scramble, scored the Reds' first try. Button failed with the kick. Morris broke away, and some real football , was seen for the first time. He transferred to McGee, and Stokes took a beautiful pass at full speed, and scored the best try of tho day. The kick at goal failed. Almost immediately afterwards from a loose rush,, Gillard intercepted a pass, and scored. He took the kick himself, and was successful. From a loose rush, Koskella rushed over, McGee kicking a goal. The Reds took olay down, and from a loose scramble in front of the Linwood goal, Pi-er scored just on time. Button failed with the kick, the final scores reading—Linwood 26. City 10.. Mr C. J. Pearce was referee.
