METHVEN.
(SPECIAL TO "THE I'RKSS.") ifKTHVKN, May 22. A further fall of snow took placo at Methven last night, and this morning'the ground was.covered to a depth of six inches, but a rapid thaw has set in, and the snow.ia fast disappearing. The Hills and the country immediately at their base have a very heavy coat' ing, and probably it will iie fora long time. AH faro* work, with the exception of looking after stock, has come to a standstill. Tho work of getting in winter wheat is very backward, owing to the frequent heavy rainfalls that have taken place lately, and the consequent wet state of the soil. Grain carting also has come to a stop, and this 'work in the' near future will be carried on under great difficulties, as it is. almost impossible to take loaded drays over the paddocks.
