Several nurses in the hospital recently contracted enteric fever, and members of the Board at the meeting yesterday made enquiries a& to how the outbreak occurred. Dr. Hardwiek ■Smith, medical superintendent, said that rather a bad case had occurred., in tne coifciren's hospital ,and five narses, who had all been on duty in in the children's hospital, and five the disease ,appareutly catching the *iniiection. fnom the children. Very thorough investigation .was being made, he said, as to whether the outbreak was due to defects in the drainage system. ■ The opossums, recently introduced into the country are ■ proving a source ot rev«nu». A Paimerston firm has just shipped away over £100 worth of skins. The values range from 2s to 7b. The Hutt a«4 Marlborough, dktncts axe at present the chief suppliers. - For the funeral of the late Mr J. H- H. A. Burnes yesterday, \rreaths were forwarded rrom the oirectors of the New Zealand Shipping Company in Chrktchurch, and from each of the Company's branches. The> service wae oon-' ducted by the Rev. Father Lane, and 3lr Adam Burnes, deceased's eldest brother, was chief mourner.
