CITIZENS' SOCIAL TO TROOPS.
FIXED FOR SATURDAY NIGHT. At tho conclusion of the ohurch parade yesterday morning, Colonel U. J Smith, commanding the Canterbury Infautry Brigade, announced to the troops that tho Officer Commanding the District had received a letter from the Mayor (Mr H. Holland), on behalf of the citizens of Chris-church, inviting tho wholo of the troors of the Christr church garrison to a social gathering to be held in King Edward Barracks at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday, May 23rd. Tho social, which is being organised by the citizens to mark their appreciation of the splendid conduct of the men at the recent camp at Kowai, will be on ar very large scale, and promises to be a great success. The Mayor will preside, and in addition to a fine musical programmo, arrangements have been, made for a cinematograph display of scenes of military interest.
