AN ORPHAN GIRL
A pretty little girl, aged about three or four years, was charged at the Juvenile Court with not being under proper caro and control. At the same time Mr Smithson appeared in support of an application -by the grandparents, who were au_io_. to adopt the child. ■
j Senior-Sergeant Mathiesou said that tho child was an orphan. Her father had died some time ago, and tiie mother had died quite recently. The little girl had been in the. custody of her grandmother, but had been spirited away. Mr Bishop remarked that tbe grandparents were the legal guardians of the child. ''This child is properly under the guardianship of it« grandparents," said Mr Bishop. "It is very satisfactory to know that the grandparents want the child and will look after it properly." An order was made for the adoption of the child in favour of the grandparents, and the formal chargo against it was withdrawn.
