CHRISTCHURCH FIRE BRIGADE.
COMPETITIONS.
The Christchurch Fire Brigade lias inaugurated a series of competitions, the object of which is to develop and illustrate the efficiency of its members. The fitst of the series was held at the Lichfield street Central Station last evening. The competitions will be continued next week at the- Sydenham and St. Albans stations. The prizes come from the members' recreation fund. Following are last night's resuKs : — 1. Fiv« men to get two linos of hoee to work at once, and chow water. Winning teem, 31 3-sth sec—Motor Drivers Pol«m and Mclvittrick, Piremea Kvans, Payne, and Brothers. 2. Five men to get three ladders and one line of hoso to work and show water. Winning team, sTsec—Senior Fireman Shepherd, Fire-men Kandali, Barnes, Hasseltrom, and J. HoKWOcd. 3. Six men to get motor ptrmp to work, ■with ladder and one lino of hose and showwater. Winninc team, 58eee— Motor Drivers Poison arid McKittrick, Firemen Evane, Payne, Brothers, and Tills. 4. Five men to get "big ladder" to -work and one line of hose. "Winning team, lmin S3 l-stli sec—Firemen Nelson, Donee, McGuft«g, Bennett, and Hay. 5. One man hose and hydrant event. Winner, 30 l-sth sec—Fireman McGnffog; second, 32 3-6 th sec—Fireman Brothers. Tblere were four teams competing for Nos.' 1, 2, and 4 events, and three teams for No. 3 event. In No. 5 there were eighteen competitors. Superintendent Warner desires to express thanks to the members of the Boarjd, and also to the secretary, for judging tho various events.
