DRAINAGE BOARD.

LAST NIGHT'S MEETING

The Christchureh Drainage Board met last night, when there were present—Messrs J. Richardson (in the chair), F. J. Barlow, S. C. Bingham, H. J. Otley, J. Down, W. J. Walter, H. Langford, and F. Storey. The Engineer reported that tha following works had been satisfactorily completed:—(a) Widening and deepening river Heathcote from old dam at Convalescent Home to Smart's bridge (Cashmere drain), and thence to tho bridge at the old Cashmere homestead, for which an additional £10 has been agreed to by the Cashmere trustees, (b) Elmwood sewers. The cost of those works would be refunded by the Cashmore trustees and the Hon. R. H. Rhodes, respectively. In th© completion of the Richmond East sewers proper the length of 1 milex.&s chains, hitherto classified as "d'aplex sowers," i.e., arranged to carry both sewage and storm-water, would come under the catogory of "storm-water sewers." The report was adopted. The Spreydon Borough Council forwarded a resolution adopted at two meetings of ratepayers, asking the Board to approve of tha Council's scheme for No. 1 drain, which, in the opinion of the Council, was as great a menace to public health as No. 2 drain, which she Board proposed to improve. The letter was referred to the Works Committee for further consideration. An application was received for a grant to the Technical College. The Board agreed to make tie usual grant, £30. " A petition was received from Marshlands ratepayers, asking the Board to deepen a dram for eight chains along Briggs's road. Mr Walter moved that the Board should deepen tho drain if the petitioners carried out the timbering required.

The motion was carried.
