FARRIERS' AWARD FILED.

The agreement between tne Cliristchurch farriers' Industrial Union of Workers and tne employers, arrived at before the Conciliation Couucil on March loth, was hied with the Cleik of Awards on Monday.

'the new award provides that three classes of labour shall bo recognised— journeymen, flooruien, and apprentices. The clause relating to hours of work states that a weeii s work shall consist of 48 hours, to be worked between tho hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on live days of the week, and between 7 a.m. and 12 noon on Saturday. The wages for a competent farrier shall not be less than Is 4Jd per hour, and competent floormon shall be paid not less than Is 3d. For a worker to be classed as a floorman he "must be employed the greater part of his time at floormen's work. Overtime is to be allowed at the rate of time and a quarter for the first two houFs, and time and a half afterwards. There are the usual clauses relating to apprentices. Provision is made for a live years' apprenticeship, first year 10s, second year £1, third year £1 10s, fourth year £2, and fifth year £2 10s. The proportion of apprentices allowed is one to every shop, with an additional apprentice to every two tradesmeu after the first two.

Piece-work is not to be allowed except tor shoe-turning, the rate tor which is 2s 6d per dozen for all plain shoes, with an increnso ot fxl per dozen in the case of draught shoes.

The award which comes into operation on April Cth and expires on April fith, IS)l<3. covers an area of forty miles from the Christchureh Post Office.
