LITTLE RIVER.
A smoking conceit |.vas tendered in the Town riall on Thursday to Mr Jonn Kearns. A large number were present, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. Songs were contributed by Messrs Samuels, Skipper, Honeyuone". Petrie, Webster, Buchanan. Meisse, Smith, Dougherty, Elliot. Stott, Patten, Pdley, 'luompion, McKenzie, McKeown, Warwick, McSwaddel, Gilbert, Carston and others, A presentation was made during the evening of a handsome tea and coffee service. Mr Kearns has been assistant guard, at Little River for three or four years, but has been transferred to ■Chri.stchurch. Reference was made to the fact that Mr Kearns last week joined the ranks of the benedicts, and wishes were expressed by speakers that he and Mrs Kearns would enjoy long life and happiness.
