LEESTON STOCK BALE
There uas an exceptionally large yaraing of sheep at yesterday's market at .leeston, the largest seen-at Leeston lor a long time. The total entry was about 3000, of which well over 2000 were ewea, aud the baianco lambs. On the whole the sheep fcale was a very satisfactory one, and .very lew lots failed to iind new owners. The prices wore exceptionally gooti lor this season of the year, especially for* store ewes and lambs. Fat ewes improved slightly in values, and the few fat lambs offered were quickly bought up at advanced rates. Store lambs met with a fairly keen enquiry from graziers, and rcad'v sales resulted. The pig pens contained 88 fats and 210 stores. The prices for fats wero still encouraging to settlers and it was evident from tho demand and tho prices ruling for stores that farmers have a fairly good supply ol feed on hand. Business was not particularly brisk in cattle. Out of an entry of 4S head, 31 dairy <attle wero passed. Fat cattle wero bought up to fill local requirements at satisfactory rates. The range ol values wns as follows i—Fat ewes, best quality, 10s Cd to 235; others from 13 Gd: fat lambs. 15s 6d to 16s 9d; forward stores, 13s 10d : stores, 7s 8d to lis 8d ; bacon pigs, o-ts to 755: choppers, to Sss: large stores, 2o s to 50s 6d ; small from 13.s : fat cows, £5 os to £7 ; springers. £7 to £9 10s; eighteen-month-old heifers, £4 17s; six-month-old calves, 475. ,
