LIFE-SAVING. SOCIETY.

SUMNER BRANCH

Mr K. Bassett presided at a meeting of the committee of the Sumner branch of the Royal Life-savins Society. The sub-committee (the chairman and Mr G. S. Lavie) reported satisfactory arrangements with the Bank of New Zealand for a loan to pay off the pavilion debt. The chairman reported that the Mayor had intimated that tho suggestions made by the Society for improved bathing facilities had the full sympathy of the Borough Council, and hoped that something would bo done beforo next season. It was resolved to thank Mr Rawnsley for the interest ho and the others forming the deputation to the Borough Council had taken in the matter. It was resolved to invite the cooperation of the New Brighton Surf Club, in connexion with the Christchurch street collection, in aid of the pavilion funds, on Saturday. April llth. A suggestion to erect a post on either side of the pavilion, with red flags, to define a bathing area, ard also the posting of notices cautioning the public not to batho outside these posts was approved by the committee. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded donors of furniture, provisions, etc., viz., Mesdames Rawnsley and Marriott, Messrs Hooper, Scott, Cairns, Christcnsen, Mower, Chambers, F. Lindross. Anson. Bassett, Watson, and the Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd. Three new members wero elected.
