BOWLING.
CHRISTCHURCH CENTRE.
A meeting of the Centre was held last evening. Present:—Messrs N. Young (president., J. Brown, A. Dickson; J. Clarke, ___. F. Barnett, A. Bourn, 1). Manson, J. Maynard, W. Henley, J. Brackenridge, J. w*. Nutt, G. W. Smithson. Dr. Sandstein, T. W. A.nbi-.'e, and D. E. Wood, secretary. A vote of condolence was pa«sed ,o th". relatives of the lato A. M. Eyes and Ge. Co.ins.
Correspondence from the Wellington Bowl ing Association regarding alteration of rule* etc.. was dealt with.
The executive suggested that the Er_-tej Tournament .___. year be an open one, limits to 48 rinks, and' 64 Doubles; rinks to bt . played in sections of 8; four games to .-* played on Good Friday and 3 on Easte. Monday; Saturday to be taken up with Doubles. Finals, if not previously decided, to be played on Easter Tuesday, The greens I selected were:—Canterbury, Sydenham, V Christchurch, and Edgeware,' and the Opawa green for Doubles.
Dr. Sandstein 6tated that he bad enquired from several players in the North regarthny our Easter Tournament, and if a copy of tha nrosramme wero sent to Auckland and Palmerston North, some entries from eaclr of these places would be forthcoming. Some discussion took place, and it war eventually agreed to leave the number >» rinks and Doubles open, and also the final ' selection of greens to the executive.
Mr Nutt (Linwood) enquired as to tha method adopted by the Centre in selecting" the players against the Australian bowler«. .
Tho Chairman replied that the executive had based their selection on the numeric*-* strength of the various club.., and also fro.i their opinion aa to tho status of the various players. No complaint ha _ been heard tr respect to tho selections made by the executive. Mr Nutt also enquired if it wa3 neceecafi for the executive to strike thc usual lev* this year, seeing that the Centre was in •• gocd financial position. Mr A. Dickson, a member of the e_._cutiv.i_ replied that such was not the case. Tha finances of the Centre hed been heav:'.struck in entertaining tho Australian bowler* " ■ Mr J. Maynard congratulated th'_ executi'-. upon thc excellent manner in which all the arrangements in connexion with the Australian bowlers had been carried out, and move-l a vote of thanks, which was eeoondc- by Mr'M. F. Barnett, and carried with an„lan=e. A vote of thanks was passed to *J_* Christchurch, Opawa, Akaroa, and Canterbury Clubs for thoir entertainment of the visitin* bowlers. It w.ia decided that tho Ch'amnion of. Champion Rinks Competition bo played <a' the Opawa green on March 21st and 2Sth. . '• LEESTON v. FARMERS' CO-OP. A thre-'-rink match ia to he played al Le»_ton on Saturday between a team .mm the Farmers' Co-op., Chriatchurch, and tb<» local club. The Co-op employees hold their ar»nual picnic at Leeston on Saturday. CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. Tho Ashburton Bowling Club will be represented in the Maddison trophy com_»ti--on by D. Campbell. J. T. M. Priest ,-) and r ' W. H. Biggins will represent the club in the champion of champions' doubles, and H. C. Craifhead (_fl. D. Campbell. 3. D. Stewart, and T. M. Clark in the champion o? champions" rink competition.
