« PERSONAL GOSSIP.
It is announced in the New Zealand Gazette that Lieutenant-Colonel G. J. Smith, commanding tho Ist (Canterbury) Regiment, has been promoted to be Colonel and to command an Infantry Brigade in placo of tlio lato Colonel TV A: Day, V.D. Lieutenant-Colonel the Hon. R. Heaton Rhodes, M.P., commanding tho Ist Mounted .n-ifles (C.V.C.), has been granted an extension of his period of command until December 4th, 1914. Lieutenant-Colonel Rhodes is to command tho Canterbury Mounted Rifles Brigado at the annual training camp of Territorials at Kowai. Major Deans will command the Ist Mounted Rifles (CYC.) at the camp. It is understood that Colonel R. A. Chaffey, V.D., will command the annual training camp of the Nelson Territorials, which is to be held at Tapawera. Corporal Montague Tisdall has been promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant in the Ist (Canterbury) Regiment. His is the first appointment to that rank in the Ist Canterbury Regiment under the system of competitive examinations for commissions.
