WELLINGTON, March 3.
Between 5 and b' o : clock this morning a fire broke out in a washhouse connected with a dwelling house of six rooms at Khandallah, owned and occupied by Mr Murray Thompson. The flames spread to .the residence, which soon destroyed an adjoining house* of eight rooms, owned by Mr Clive Sommerville. A house occupied by Mr N. F. Cuthberteon afterwards took fire, and was soon reduced to ashes. There was no water supply and a stiff northwester was blowing. Some furniture from both houses was saved.
A firo gutted Messrs Wright and 'German's .printing office in Featherstori street this evening, though the machinery room was less seriously damaged by fire than by water. Tho outbreak is supposed to have chirred through the upsetting of a kerosene lamp used for making tea. The plant and stock were insured for £1800 in the Norwich Union, Standard and Phoenix offices, and the building for £300 in the New Zealand office.
