JOTTINGS FOR FARMERS.

There are *258 applicants for the 43 Hillersden sections. The total number of applications is 1578. Tho ballot will be taUen to-morrow. It is stated by a Wairarapa correspondent that two or three Wairarapa sheepfarmers, who have been very successful at shows in the North Island this season, will probably exhibit stock at the next Canterbury Show. The Department of Agriculture will make a display at the. Ash burton A. and P. Association's show on the 18th and 19th inst. Exhibits aro being got together at present as speedily as possible, but it is too early in the season to get a thoroughly good display. From October 10th to Januar- 30th the following quantities of produce have been shipped to San Francisco, Tahiti, and Rarotonga, and transhipments "from Neil- Zealand by tho steamers Tahiti, Moana and Aorangi; 27.049 boxes of butter. 2533 cases of meat, and 1140 sacks of grain and seeds. During tho month of January the number of stock exported from the Dominion was:—Horses: 49 to Australia, 21S to Pacific Islands.. Sheet): 209 to Australia, 138 to Pacific Islands, 149 to South Africa. Cattle: 5 to Australia, 4 to Pacific Islands. Pigs: 3 to Austraia, 18 to Pacific Islands. Dogs: 16 to Australia 28 to Pacific Islands. 1 to London.

From August 30th to January 17th there were shipped to Vancouver and Xorth American ports by the Marama, Makura and Niagara, 90.933 boxes of butter. 6258 carcases of mutton. 8354 quarters of beef. 2060 carcases of veal 6SI bale* of wool. 14.884 hides, skins, etc.. 1>76 bale« «kin«. 9583 packages of sundries. 13S0 cases kauri gum, 909 bales hemp, 356 coses eggs, 1714 cases canned meats, f>l4 sacks fertiliser. There are a number of other items in smaller quantities, but these figures

show to what extent that trade with the Pacific Coast is developing.
