AKAROA.

A meeting of the Akaroa County Council was held on Saturday last at Duvauchelle. The Lands and Survey Department wrote etating that it was proposed to declare the Council a Domain Board to have control of the new German Bay Ilecreation Ground. It was decided to suggest that the Board be comprised of residents of the Bay. The Government Insurance Department informed the Council that if the rat© of interest paid by the Public Trustee remained as at present, the sinking fund of 1 per cent, on the proposed Robinson's Bay Wharf Loan would not be sufficient to renay the loan at the end of the term, viz., 35 years. It was resolved to consult tho ratepayers before taking further steps to raise the loan. The Chairman stated that he had inspected the Holmes Bay bridge, and reported favourably on the structure. The grant to the pigeon Bay Road Board towards the cost of the work was passed for payment. Owing to the . difficulty experienced in engaging wheelers for the crusher, the Council considered the qustion of raising the wages Jor this work. It was decided to pay Bs. a day as at present, and also to divide among the staff a bonus of 6d per yard for every yard above 50 crushed in the day. It was decided to amend the schedule of duties of the maintenance staff to provide that the foreman and one surfaceman remain at work on the roads during the cocksfoot harvest. It was resolved to recommend the Government to pass legislation taxing motors, the t>roceods to be devoted towards the maintenance of roads. A grant of £6 6s Was voted to the funds of the Akaroa Technical School. The final.payment to the contractor for the Onawe Flat road, wharf and shed was passed for payment. Six months leave of abSenco was granted to Mr E. Hay, who will shortly leave on a visit to England. ' '
