MORE CONSTABLES REQUIRED. (PHBBS ASSbeiAtlOV TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON. February 23. Tho Minister of Justice states that he require* n hundred additional constables for fconric© in various parts of the country to meet tho growing doniands of settlement. Replying this afternoon to a deputation asking for additional police protection in ft part of the city, tho Hon. A. L. Herdman referred to the* difficulties liiider frhich tlio short-Staffed police force at present carried out their duties. Hβ waß constantly receiving complaints from rapidly growing districts, buoTi as Ohakune. where there Was only one constable, that irions police frero required. Ho iht<?nded to aik the Minfeter of Finance for the neceswjry funds to increase tho forco by one hundred men.
