GERMAN SOUTH AFRICA

WILL IT EVER BECOME BRITISH?

(By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received February 1-th, 11.40 p.m.) BERLIN, February 16.

The "Hamburger Nachrichten" strongly protests against General Srauts's speech at a banquet in Johannesburg, iv which he predicted that the Union of South Africa would include the greater part, perhaps all, of the land south of the Equator.

The "Nachrichten" asks if greater British influences were behind this speech, and adds: —''For us the surrender of German South Africa in the far distant future is outside the range of discussion. Such language is calculated to create bad blood between Germany and England."
