FIRES.

Shortly before noon yesterday the Fire Brigade received a call from the Tramway Board's power-house. While some tar was being heated in a tank in the yard on the south side of the power-house, where tarred metal was being prepared, there was a sudden blaze from the tar. which threatened to spread rapidly. f The brigade was summoned by the engineer-in-charge of the power-house, but the fire was put out with the appliances available, before the motor-engines arrived.
