AN OUTING FOR CHILDREN.

AUTOMOBILE" ASSOCIATION'S

GENEROSITY.

In yearn past the Canterbury Automobile" Association has generously set aside one day for the purpose of giving the orphans of the Waltham Orphanage, and the deaf and dumb children of the institute at Sumner, a day in the country, and the event for 1914, took place on Saturday afternoon. The day wu.s a very pleasant one for such an occasion, and the run out to Motukarara and Kaituna was most enjoyable. Altogether ninety children from the Deaf and Dumb Institute, at Sumner, and sixteen from tho Waltham Orphanage were taken, and counting in tho attendants for the children, and the members of the Automobile Association, fully one hundred and sixty people took part in the run.

Those, who very kindly provided the 22 cars and refreshments for the children were:—Mrs Cordy, Dr. Simpson. President of the Association, Dr. Russell, Captain McLean, and MessTS Seth-Sinith, Loigh, T. W. Edmonds, Frostick, V. E. Mills, G. B. Macfarlane. Kennett. S. F. Johnston, D. Crozier, P. H. Climie, A. S. Clarkeon. T..A. Bailey. T. Smart. R. Raymond, Kibblewbite, Hubbard, and Mrs Sead-Gowing, and the NewZealand Farmers' Co~operativo Association, the latter firm providing a big motor-lorry which carried a large load.

Tho visitors were ent-ertained at Mr "Vv*. F. Parkinson's place, at Kaituna. and after a good afternoon tea, plenty of lollies and games, the return journey was undertaken, proving quite as enjoyable as the outward run.
