LONDON, February 13. A terrific gale is raging in the Channel.
At Land's End the coastguards spied a ship's punt, containing throe men, a mile off, and rapidly being driven shorewards before the heavy seas. They summoned a rocket brigade four miles away. Just as the brigade reached th"o top of the cliff the boat "was caaght by a huge wave and dashed on the rocks. It smashed to pieces and the crew disappeared in tho mountainous seas.
It is believed that the' men formed part of the crew of the steamer Arnside, of Sunderland, which is 6upposod to have foundered with ail hands.
Tho three-masted cargo steamer My Own, laden with cement, was struck by heavy seas and the hatches smashed. Water poured into the holds and she sank off Sboreham. The crew of eight were drowned. The captain, who dung to tho rigging, was eeen in the morninp and rescued by a lifeboat.
The second Australian submarine, .which was on her way to Portsmouth, is sheltering at Fishguard. (Received February loth, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, February 14. The Arnside?. carried twelve hands.
