TIMARU MARKETS.
(SPECIAL to "tub press.") TIMARU, February 13.
Notwithstanding tho "oroKeii nature of the weather since harvest began, threshing mills have already started work in various parts of South Canterbury, aud several samples of both wheat and oats have been on offer during the week, both being slightly discoloured. Some growers are asking 3s lOd and 4s per bushel for new wheat, but they are not getting it. Buyers are offering from 3s 4d to 3s 6d, delivered Timaru, according to sample and description. Bright lines of oats are commanding is 6d and Is 7d at country stations. The rain will put a stop to threshing from the stook for a time. The present season* experienced, farmers say, is ono in which all grain should be stacked. A sale of oats, has been made with Auckland on the basis of the prices /above quoted, but the demand from Auckland is not keen as yet. New oatensheaf chaff is not expected to be on tho market for about a month.
The potatoe market has weakened, "to-day's values being £2 12s 6d to ,£3 per ton, delivered Timaru. Advices from Auckland are to the effect that the Northern City will not require -any potatoes from the South until about the end of March.
It is now discovered that the blight in the crops is not nearly so bad as was anticipated earlier in the season. Good samples of barley are wanted in "Auckland, -but very few have come forward here so far. Prime samples are worth 3s 6d on trucks.
