N.Z. METROPOLITAN TROTTING CLUB.

FEBRUARY MEETING.

TO-DAY'S PROSPECTS,

If the weather holds good to-day the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's February Meeting, which takes place at Addington. should prove in every way successful. Each succeeding Meeting at the leading Club's headquarters gives proof of the increasing popularity of the light-harness sport in Canterbury, and although this gathering is limited to one day, there is every indication that it will attract a large attendance. His Excellency the Governor, with Lady Liverpool and suite, will bo present, and will be entertained at luncheon by the stewards.

The Club's wen-appointed grounds present a very signt juot now, ana tue courso is in reany nrsi-class order, so unit under tavounude weauier conditions, last tunes Biiouid be registered, 'liio majority oi tue events have drawn, very goou helds., unci eouie nitcreacing racing is assured. Tho principal event, iroui a monetary pouit ot /view, is the Parliamentary JtianUicap, a harness race, over two miles lor a stake or tioO soys. Twelvo horses have been paid up tor iv this evout, including -several recent winners. _ Of the number lyy Dillon is certain to command a goou deal or support. She hardly performed up to expectations iv Dunedin a fortnight ago, but the track conditions were very bad there, aud too much reliance cannot be placed on the form then shown. Princess Louise seems to be getting back to her best form, while Quincey, the only trotter in the field, is such a genuino stayer, that he is sure to be running on well at the finish.

The field for the Stewards' Handicap includes some of the fastest horses racing at the Meeting, and this event will be particularly interesting because of tho fact that the experiment is being tried of handicapping and starting it by distance instead of time. That brilliant maro, Emmeline, is on the back mark, 83yds behind scratch, but she is as a rule, such a quick beginner, that she should catch a good many of thoso in front of her before they have gone far. However, thero are some very speedy ones in the field, and Huia Dillon, who is on tho limit, has 6hown himself possessed of plenty of pace.

With the exception of tho Ladies' Bracelet, the Final Handicap, a mile saddle race, which .'will bring the programme to a close, has drawn the largest field of tho day, and it should furnish a spirited contest, with probably the keenest speculation of all tho races on the card. Tho first race will start at 1 p.m., and there will bo a frequent sorvice of special trams from Cathedral Square to the course. Tho following is the daj-'s card:—
