ST; ALBANS
At the monthly meeting of the St. •Albans, school committee there were present—Mr Beanland (chairman), .Mrs Stewart, ard Messrs R. Fletcher, J-:. H. Andrews, A. H. Hobbs, J. McFarlane and F. Colo (secretary. The secretary v.a*> instructed to congratulate Miiss Lawrence and Mr Somerset on their return to uuty after long and severe illnesse-s. The Visiting Committee reported that the school buildings reflected great credit ou the caretaker (Mr liigham), and ;t vote of thanks was conveyed to him. The examination report of the sixth standard was received,, and considered most satisfactory. Out of 52 pupils, 38 gained proficiency cet rificatcs. 13 competency cctrificates and one failed. It was decided to congratulate the headmaster and staff on the results attained. . The headmaster reported a roll number of 711. with sin average attendance of 637. Messrs Fletcher and Colville wero apjKjinted a Visiting Committee for tho month. It was decided to hold a meeting of householders on Monday next to consider the holding of a school fair.
At the monthly - meeting of the Cashmere school committee there were present—Mrs Speight and Messrs Currio (chairman). McCrostie, Murray, Paekwood, -danders, and Andrews (hon. secretary). Correspondence was read from the Board oi" Education, advisincr tho committeo tbat Mr Johnston would bo the relieving teacher in charge of the school until the appointment of a headmaster, and appointing Miss Doubled..}* as probationer. The resignation of Miss Adele Hodgson, head mistress, was received with regret, and the secretary was directed to convey to her tho committee's keen appreciation of her services to the school from its inception in 1007 until tho present, time, and to thank her for the uniform courtesy she had always shown to the committee, as well as to express the committee's good wishes for her future prosperity. Out of a large number of applicants. Mr W. A. Stout, of Heathcote school, was recommended to the Board for appointment as headmaster and Miss G. Suckling as assistant-mis-tress. The relieving headmaster reported that tho School had opened with a roll number of 93 scholars. Mr Thomas was appointed caretaker \ committee of ladies, with the chairman, wa/s set un to arrango for a presentation to Miss Hodgson on Friday next. J
