Tho conference of the New Zealand Locomotive Engine-driver?", Firemen, and Cleaners' Association resumed yesterday morning. Consideration of the comprehensive agenda paper, covering rnsmy salient points and introducing bcMielicial innovations, was commenced. The many anomalous rules in the railway regulations were di.scu.ssed. and the lirand Council expressed determination to arrest the irritation and friction engendered by. impracticable rues. The question or registering the Association under the Industrial Conciliation and Arort ration Act was mooted, and though no official discussion look place, the atmosphere was susivptible to the change. Nevertheless, <-ontracts entered upon with the 'Department are expected to bo fulfilled before fresh negotiations nre proceeded with. The work of the Executive Council for the years IPI2-11 was reviewed and confirmed, and it was unanimously resolved: —"That the Executive Council hns been alert to itG obligations, and has ably discharged the manifold duties devolving upon it." , Additional rules were, added to the constitution of the Executive Council extending its sphere of activity to meet increased requirements. The Grand Council decided that the grounds of appeal in cases of punisTiment be made more aeces-ible to raeui-i-bers to admit closer investigation in I the matter of fip.«s> for alleged errors. It also recommended that the designation or' members approaching promotion Ibe more clearly defined in the D 3 list. j The Council discussed the inconvenient construction and dimensions of railway houses as supplied to certain members of Division 2, and it was decided to ask that certain rooms be enlarged to reasonable and habitable dimensions. Conference adjourned till 9 a.m. today.
